the best part of the sals experience that particular day (aside from the food of course)was overhearing the waitress inform a fellow patron that if they thought it was busy on tuesday they should see it on GST cheque day - yes - its that kinda place. oh, and hugh - if you ever read this - i think it might be a shame to close this chapter on sals without hearing about your particular experiences there - i think you know what i mean..... Posted by Picasa

its nowhere near the best burger in town - but that didn't stop me from eating it.  Posted by Picasa

you have to add your own toppings. what's up with that? honestly how the nip has been a winnipeg tradition for 75 years i just can't understand. i mean, i get the idea of something being so bad that it has its own particular charm but come on. well, actually i can kinda buy into that last part a little bit. but just a little bit. Posted by Picasa

so that's a whopping $3.00 worth of food right there. considering what it might do to your body upon eating - it may still be over priced. Posted by Picasa

just in case you didn't believe me ...... (personally i think this is just so that burton cummings can afford to eat out......) Posted by Picasa

In honour of Salisbury House's 75 cent tuesdays - which is in honour of 75 years of business (hard to believe i know) - i figured i should post the nip. Posted by Picasa

the first time i had a superboy i ate in the restaurant - and it was ok - but there was a weird spice involved in the burger that just didn't seem right to me. years later i told this to my friend james (a long time resident from accross the street) and he told me the secret - it was the restaurant itself. now i didn't believe him either until i actually ate it outside and the weird spice thing was not that noticeable. in fact the whole experience was quite enjoyable - except for the guy who walked by wearing nothing but sweat pants which were 5X too big - that produced a couple of scary moments let me tell you. main street, what can you do?  Posted by Picasa

now let me tell you why...... Posted by Picasa

now here's the deal - superboys has a good burger (even though it's not called a fatboy) - but you really should eat it outside.  Posted by Picasa

so you can eat in superboys, as the table and chairs in this picture might suggest - but i would suggest you didn't. Posted by Picasa

here's another fine establishment on main street - in the north end. Posted by Picasa

ok, ok, i know its been a while since i posted on the blog - but i've been busy. between buying a house, renovating, working, etc, i haven't had a lot of time to take pictures of my food. but i figured i should update this thing before the snow comes for good so here's a little something from the archive - SUPER BOYS Posted by Picasa

one last note - albert street burger's is only open regular business hours - so if you can't make it out for lunch during the week you're pretty much out of luck. sorry. Posted by Picasa

and here's everyone enjoying their meal (well almost everyone - we were missing one person that day) al's is a definate favourite at the office. it wasn't even my idea to get burgers.  Posted by Picasa

one thing you may notice that is missing from the big al is the chili. which i suppose could be forgiven by the sheer amount of beef present. they do offer a chili burger called the fat albert - and while you can't beat the name - i'd have to say the chili is a bit too beany for my tastes so stick with the al. Posted by Picasa

and here we see it unwrapped. that's 3/4 of a pound of beef right there. Posted by Picasa

ok - time for the burgers. just to give a sense of scale - the big al is on the bottom compared to regular chesesburgers. you can probably guess which one is mine? Posted by Picasa

unfortunately we never made use of the fleet gallery for this meal since it was more of a private work party of sorts - but on the upside - look at that bag full of fries - it actually ripped because of the grease. Posted by Picasa

but here's the thing - once you've placed your order - you eat at the gallery across the street. how cool is that? you can just see the apron of the runner bringing an order into the gallery in this shot. the owner of the gallery used to own albert street burgers too - so that's how the eating arrangements came to be - just in case you were wondering. Posted by Picasa

first, let me explain. here's a little panorama of albert street. that's albert street burgers on the left. the arrow on the right - well, that's where i work.  Posted by Picasa

well, we had burgers for lunch last friday - and where i work - that can mean only one thing...... albert street burgers. Posted by Picasa

first of all - let me apologize for the poor quality of this picture - but as you will soon find out i really don't feel that bad about posting it. so i went out to the red boot drive-in yesterday with neil and sarah to get some food before lost started. we were running kind of late (we left my place around 7:20 and lost starts at 8) so i wasn't sure if i should make the attempt or not but once i hit acadamy we decided to press on. with great anticipation we arrived at the red boot with about 25 minutes to spare, the open sign was on and all was well with world - or so it seemed. i quickly snapped this picture while neil tried the door only to find that it was locked. the less noticeable non-lit sign displayed the fact that they closed at 7. heartbreaking.  Posted by Picasa

and that brings us to the end. i wanted this shot to show off the amount of napkins i went through while eating this burger. it was fair bit - which means the burger was fairly messy which means it was pretty good. if i want a burger i can eat while driving i'd go to mcdonalds. if i'm going to sit down for a fatboy (or in this case a deluxe burger with cheese) its kinda nice to know you kinda have to give it your full attention. so all in all, daly burger gets my approval - despite no drive-in, and no fatboys on the menu. actually it was kinda good to be sitting in the restaurant in this particular case as we had to wait for about an hour until boris (the photographer) met us to take my picture with the burger for the paper. it was kinda weird already talking about my sordid eating habits (a subject neil, john, and steve were only too happy to contribute to) with david, but things really got weird when the camera came out. i can't say i ever thought i'd be posing with a hamburger for the paper. but i suppose there are worse things to be known for. in the meantime the article should be out in a couple of weeks so stay tuned...... Posted by Picasa

and now for the close-up. mmm, isn't that appetizing? i'd like to draw your attention if i may to the greasy, melted cheesiness coming out from under the edge of the bun next to the fries.  Posted by Picasa
